Publish Events
When you publish an event within a scenario you create a change which is global, meaning the event effects the whole scenario. Some examples of published events include manipulation of weather and time of day, screen titles, and parameters for student/trainee interactivity. There are a couple of different ways to call events which will be shown below.
This page will show three different types of events that may be published.
1. Create a new session with a controlled Cessna. Right click in the Knowledge Center white space > New > Session. Once in Scenario Editor, right click on the map > New > Cessna. Place the Cessna on the ground at an airport.
Manipulation of Weather in a Scenario
2. To call a weather/time of day event, it is easiest to click View > Environment Settings
3. From here you have options to choose which environmental events you would like to call.
4. Let’s select a low visibility situation (right now we have unlimited visibility selected). First, select the Visibility tab and in the dropdown Visibility box select the option for 3 NM / ~5500 Meters.
The scenario is now effected by the event we called to reduce visibility.
(Here we are viewing the Cessna from Chase View. Click on the Preview button in the Scenario Editor toolbar > Right click on the map > Outside > select Cessna from the list. To return to Editor mode, click the Preview button again.)
Manipulation of Time in a Scenario
5. We can select the time of day using the same steps above except we would click on the Time tab. However, there are multiple ways to change the scenario time. For the example given below, create a new agent for the Cessna. Select the Cessna and click on the Agents tab in the Entity Settings window. Right click in the blank space > New > Virtual Instructor. Now, right click on Instructions > Advanced > Publish Event.
6. Select SetTimeOfDay by searching for “time” in the Search For box (check Show hidden tokens box), then click Add.
7. You must enter a value in seconds from midnight in order to change the time. Here we have entered the equivalent of 10:00pm or 22:00 hours.
This shows the change in environment/scenario when you call the event. On the left we have 12:00 hours, and on the right we have 22:00 hours.
Setting Student/Trainee Interactivity
There may be times where the instructor will not want the student/trainee to have control over any of the lesson’s functioning such as vehicle controls, instruments, or camera movement, either through touchscreen, mouse, and/or keyboard hot keys. An event may be published to enable/disable user input.
8. Right click on Instructions > Advanced > Publish Event.
9. In the Search For box, type “user” and click on UserInputEnable (check Show hidden tokens box).
10. From the Set Event screen, select False from the drop down menu “Should User Inputs be Enabled?” and click OK.
11. When run, the agent will disable all user input when it reaches this event.
12. Another event may be created to enable user input by following all the same steps above, only this time checking True from the drop down menu to enable user input once again.
